What is herpes?
Herpes is the contagious viral infection. It is one of the fastest spreading sexually transmitted diseases or STDs. It is cause due to herpes simplex virus or HSV. The basic symptom is the appearance of cold sores or blisters on the affected body part. On the basis of body part affected it is divided into two types, genital herpes and oral herpes. In this article we will discuss about oral herpes in brief. As this is a sexually transmitted disease it spreads through the sexual contact with the affected person. The herpes infection is not curable and thus one has to take precautionary measures to keep it away.
Symptoms of oral herpes
Oral herpes shows symptoms but in several cases these symptoms does not occur. It takes almost 2 to 12 days for symptoms to occur after getting affected with the virus. It starts with the appearance of painful blisters on the lips and surrounding part. These blisters also refer as the cold sores contain fluid which is contagious. Blisters are painful to touch. Very often these cold sores gets clear automatically and reoccur periodically. This is known as the herpes outbreak. The frequency of the outbreak trigger by many factors which is not similar for every sufferer. Cold sores also known as fever blisters are painful and itchy that occurs on the lips, cheeks, around the mouth and inside the mouth covering roof of the mouth and gums. In some cases these sores can be seen on the neck and the lymph nodes in the neck get swollen. Initially the cold sore appears as a red dot hat becomes fluid filled blister which within seven days gets scabbed and dry out.
Treatment of oral herpes
Unfortunately there is no such treatment option available to cure oral herpes infection completely. Cold sores in the mouth cause great difficulty while eating or drinking. The pain and itch can be reduced with topical anesthetics prescribe by the doctor. Your doctor will test the sores to detect the presence of herpes simplex virus and then according to the intensity of the infection prescribes the medication. One should take the herpes medication as directed by the doctor. Prevention is the key in controlling g the spreading of oral herpes and genital herpes too. Wash your hands thoroughly after touching the cold sores. Check for the symptoms of herpes before getting indulge in a sexual activity.
